Women Lawyers Network
In June 2014, LAW launched ‘The Women Lawyers Network: Working in Conflict’ to establish and facilitate connections between women lawyers from the Americas, the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa. Access to justice for women and children is a global issue and requires more attention. The purpose of the network is to forge connections between women lawyers working in conflict areas and senior human rights and humanitarian lawyers working in jurisdictions across the world. The objective of the network is to better equip women lawyers working in conflict to address the challenges before them and at the same time provides international women lawyers with direct insights of the experiences of those working on the ground. “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organisation but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” ― Gloria Steinem
LAW launched women lawyers network at Hausfield’s law firm in June 2014. The event brought together more than twenty women lawyers and researchers to discuss sexual violence in conflict, specifically the case of Somalia. Harriet Wistrich, founder of Justice for Women, and 2014 Liberty human rights lawyer of the year, led a lively discussion with LAW’s Executive Director Antonia Mulvey. Discussions resulted in concrete recommendations including the establishment of mentoring partnerships between women lawyers working in conflict and non-conflict contexts.
Global Lawyers Network
LAW is comprised of a network and think tank of more than sixty prominent human rights lawyers and advisors from the Middle East, Africa, Europe, America and South America who advise LAW on the development of innovative legal strategies aimed at effecting legal change. They do this concretely by attending roundtables and expert discussions, contributing to and advising on the development of projects, providing legal advice, writing legal arguments and taking cases.
