In September 2018, LA began work on a project funded by the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (MADAD), as part of a consortium led by Euromed Feminist Initiative and including Legal Action, Care International and the Lebanese Democratic Women Gathering (RDFL).
The Consortium will provide multi-sectoral services to Syrian refugees and marginalised Lebanese communities, with a strong focus on women, across Lebanon. The project will focus on those who have been subjected to sexual and gender-based violence and other forms of discrimination or abuses, or who are at risk of statelessness.
Legal Action’s focus will be on the provision of legal aid, access to justice for sexual and gender-based violence and support to the reform of legislation and policy. Legal Action will work with lawyers from the region to identify gaps in the current laws, particularly in relation to the projection, promotion and inclusion of Lebanese and Syrian women, and work to develop amendments or alternative legislation to address these gaps. LAW is currently hiring for this project. If you would like to get involved, check out our available positions here.
