Ensuring Representativeness in Open Source Human Rights Research

On 10 and 11 April 2019, LAW participated in ‘Ensuring Representativeness in Open Source Human Rights Research’ a workshop hosted by the University of Swansea and organised by OSR4Rights.

Human rights investigators and staff from both non-governmental organisations and the United Nations human rights system; academics from law, human rights, computer science, geoinformatics, statistics, and cognate disciplines examined the extent to which open source evidence can be said to be representative of affected populations in investigations of mass atrocities and human rights violations, how this may affect investigations, and whether and how issues of informational bias can be overcome or mitigated.
